Drum Buddy vs LED Music Box

This posting on Gizmodo about a swanky art-project LED music box reminded me of the far less swanky but considerably funkier Drum Buddy - a crazy home-made light-triggered scratch-able drum box played by New Orleans DJ/Musician Mr Quintron. If you ever see Quintron and Miss Pussycat playing near where you are, it's worth a few quid to see them. Alternatively, you can buy yourself a Drum Buddy for $999 and recreate the vibe at home.

Comments:
man, we opened up for mr Quintron at a coffeeshop in Gulfport, mississippi. I played a theremin and also a suctioncup pickup stuck on an aquarium ran through a multifex. Mr Q and missus P were outta site!

There's also a band in Portland, Oregon that uses a Drum Buddy called 'The Golden Greats'. Kind of a funk thing, but the guy in this band is actually a better DB player than Quintron is (seen him a couple of times now).

The guy in Portland is named Danny and he's in also in our band Toyboat Toyboat Toyboat. He's awesome at it! Danny totally plays it like a Theremin/Drummachine/Scratching DJ Style. Here is a our myspace page. We have video of our first show up. We're also recording right now so we'll have some new songs up say in November-ish! Thanks!
