'Loudspeaker Orchestra' coming to London

The Acousmonium is an orchestra made up of 80 loudspeakers arranged around a stage. It was invented in 1974 at GRM (Groupe de Recherches Musicales) in Paris, inspired by the 1968 riots. It's coming to the ICA in London on May 5-7 2006. GRM also developed the amazing GRM Tools suite of delay/ warping/ doppler/ pitchshifting plugins. (Thanks, FMass)

If you're into this sort of thing, there is a permanent exhibition that is somewhat similar in San Francisco, called the Audium. Composer/educator Stan Shaff runs it, every Friday and Saturday night. Wild Musique Concrete and analog synth stuff performed in a surround space of 169 speakers... in total darkness. Totally fantastic and right in my neighborhood.
