Cheer Up Week: Leoncie the Indian Princess

Bob writes from Iceland: "I'm an avid music thing reader but have never posted anything, hope you like this raving psychotic as much as I do. She plays everything herself (synthesizers and general midi intruments) and sings. Leoncie has lived here in Iceland for about 10-15 years but seems to be coming your way and relocating to London, as she claims that Icelandic media is racist for refusing to play her music. This is no joke - She´s dead serious." Leoncie says she makes "A Lovely Range of Agressive and yet Sensual, Dynamic Melodies that touch your Soul," with song titles including "Radio Rapist", "Love in a Pub", "Magnetisk Sexy Loverboy", and "Safe Sex-Take me Deeper." Aside from a mention on Eurotrash in 2004, the most impressive press Leoncie has had was this report from the time she visited Leigh on Sea in Essex. Geddit?

Does anyone else suspect we'll see her next in a issue of Art News or ArtForum as the performance artist who snookered the world with her "I love Britney and Geo. Bush" media persona?

I hope I'm wrong, but in case that's the way it goes, just remember: we heard about her before Jeff Koons did.

The lyrics are even funnier in icelandic and last year she was furius because her songs were not played on local radio stations calling people racsists and saying she would move away from iceland.

When we were in high school we hired her to do a gig for a school "beer night", made more sense to hire somebody everyone would enjoy (albeit for all the wrong reasons) than getting some DJ. She used to be a stripper in the 80's and that kind of rubs of on her live performance. Good times.
