Mad tiny lobster-finish guitars

Mrco writes to tell me about the Stump Preacher guitar, which was launched at NAMM '96. It was an amazing $1,000 composite/aluminium/carbon fibre/wood travel guitar, where the strings passed over big rollers to machine heads in the middle of the body. Unfortunately, it looks like Stump Preacher, which was founded by Australian guitarist John Devitry and machinist Rod Brower, seems to have gone bust.

John Devitry is now working at Utah State University's Space Dynamics Laboratory. He is also teaching Solid Edge classes at the University. He says that the design for the Stump Preacher guitar has been sold to Rainsong Guitars.

Reminds me of that godawful Erlewine Lazer that Johnny Winter plays.

Sorry, but it looks akward and kludgey. Those body mounted tuners negate any possibilty of flamenco techniques. A brass nut ? Thought those went out in the 70's ? Have we learned nothing ? What's next, butcher block wood construction ?

I was a bit skeptical until I actually played. This guitar is certainly high quality, and easy to play. I do a lot of travel and the size makes it conviently portable. Good to see an innovative quality guitar finally!!
