OMG! The DSI Mono Evolver Keyboard

There's something wonderful about a new, knob-covered mono synth, and the first big leak from NAMM is this (from the Harmony Central forums), the DSI Mono Evolver keyboard. $1199 gets you an Evolver in a steel box, 37 keys, 58 knobs, lots and lots of blue LEDs and, most important of all, wooden end panels. It's very expensive, but... Damn! Dave Bryce, who works for DSI, posted the pictures on the forum, and said they really wanted to sell the synth for under $1,000, but couldn't make the sums add up. Watch the DSI Website for updates.

1199 MSRP doesn't seem like a lot compared to a Moog Voyager. Most people think $500 is a good deal for the original Evolver. Adding $500 or so buck (street) for keys, a ton of knobs and, er, wood, seems not bad!

  3. Tempting! I think I'll have to stick with my keyboardless model for now, but will continue to covert all other models.

Imagine - if it is the same engine
as the other Evolvers, it will
be a wonderful controller for the
Rack version, or for someone with
an existing "classic" version or 3.

Wouldn't this MEK be upgradeable to a polysynth by adding a PE rack? (Isn't that how voice overflow is handled by the PEK?) What a great feature that'd be!

If you take a peek at the back panel of the MEK (grin), you'll spot an extra MIDI jack. There's the In/Out/Thru from the original, plus a MIDI Poly Chain Out (just like on the Poly Evolver Keyboard) for chaining additional Evolvers or hooking up the Poly Evolver rack.

Oh, and Tom -- have no fear, the extra dosh buys us both a power switch and headphone jack.

It's just not analog unless some trees had to die to make it. Which is ironic in so many ways its funny no matter how you feel about it.

From the Latin: ana [without] and from the English: log [hunk of dead tree]. So now we see their dastardly scheme: they want to eradicate all trees! EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE.

    Quick, bring the trees upstairs.
