After last month's beautiful-but-useless silver Minidisc player comes a pair of $3,299 headphones, complete with matching aluminium headphone stands. They're in the stupidly-expensive-and-not-all-that-clever Sony Qualia range. What's really bad is that they're replaced the $3,999 MDR-R10 headphones. They were awesome, mainly because they were made of 'wood from the Keyaki tree', the frame was magnesium, and the earphones were covered in Greek lambskin. These new things don't have any of that, just a hint of carbon fibre over the headband. Bah!

Wooh! Really expensive Sony headphones
After last month's beautiful-but-useless silver Minidisc player comes a pair of $3,299 headphones, complete with matching aluminium headphone stands. And they probably still have too much high-end.

ReplyDeleteThere are quite a lot of them in UK. Me having the old ones and the new ones. Actually I prefer the old ones, but the new ones have its technical merits (more detail). Unfortunately they are less musical, though.

Ramtha, I see your point. I'd get rid of millions of luxuries first.(jewels, expensive watches, sport cars, 5 star hotels,...). At least this extravagance allows you to get the most of one of the best forms of artistic expression the man knows: the music. Even a dress can cost more.
When the world gave up on a lot of stupid extravagances, I'll willing to sell my headphones and send the money to Africa. (I'm Oxfam volunteer and support more ONGs, btw).
What about the Senn'er ones that cost about 4 times as much and come with their own tube amp. No-one's complaining about them.

ReplyDeleteYou complain about Americans being able to spend that much money on them, yet you make nowhere near that much money in a few weeks. It may seem like a large amount of money to you, but perhaps you should reconsider the fact that some Americans can make that much money in a week.
And about Africans dying of starvation everything 3 seconds I say this; Tell they're political leaders to adopt capitalism, and to set down their weapons and difference and work together to make life better for everyone and not just the few, and the problem will not exist anymore.

Its for people who are able to realise that money is shit. You can just keep on and on....its got nothing to do with the people in africa or britain or the usa, no one will meet each other. There's a good quote by michael moore, i paraphrase, "My friends are kings and heirs, and rich business men, its no offence"....the people in power will not go easy :)
