It does seem quite heavily dependent on the quality of the MIDI file you give it.

Now an audio version would be interesting...

The author demo'd this a couple years ago at one of my CS colloquia. He's also done awesome work visualizing Wikipedia edit histories; worth checking out; sorry no linky.
