The best Moog album... ever?

With evenings drawing in and the festive season approaching, our thoughts turn to epic semi-legal compilations of '60s & '70s funky synth music. Sonic Reclamation Industries have put together a fantastic free downloadable collection called 'Moog Break Beats', which is full of synth-led cover versions, square-wave solos and really excessive effects use (some nice full-track flanging on Sounds Galactic's 'Spinning Wheel'). My own personal favourite is Claude Denjean's awesome version of 'Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye).' (via J-Chot)

if you check out my website http://www.typenerd.com, i designed an entire book about the begginings of the moog and buchla synths. its called analog transistor love. in the book i shot more than 50 vintage moog records. take a look.

I have the one with Na na na kiss him goodbye on it...picked it up in a thrift shop for 50 cents!

These are amazing!!

That is some damn fine through-zero flanging action indeed.

Some of these renditions are very strange. Thank you!

Alright "mah na mah na" is just bad-ass. The best thing about these old Moog hits is that their synths are so squelchy and ripping. Even the patches they come up with are pretty weird compared to today; kinda haunted.

I always rock the switched on sound when ever I play out. People go crazy for Moog covers. Can't believe Dick Hyman didn't make it onto this though!!

They said the idea was to preserve hard to find music. Dick Hyman's Moog albums were re-released on CD a few years ago. Same for Perrey & Kingsley, and Jean-Jacques Perrey's solo stuff (which is all really great, by the way).

Fair point anon. I forgot that they re-issued the Hyman albums onto one best of comp. BTW I did a Moog radio show on totallyradio.com just after Bob passed away, it features plenty of hard to find and not so hard to find Moog tracks.
