eBay of the Day: EMS Synthi E

"Hey Tom, don't you ever get bored of posting eBay auctions of old and ludicrously expensive EMS gear?" Nope. Item #7380071548 is a great looking Synthi E - the slightly cruddy cut-down version of the Synthi A. This one is already $1,174 with five days to go... (Thanks, ScotStorch)

  1. The shots in the auction are from a previous action I posted about on 8/19/05. Check out http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2005/08/ems-synthi-e-on-bay.html

Not implying anything, btw. Either this exact one is up for auction again, or not. : ) I have no idea if the previous actuion even sold as the auction post has expired already. Used synths obiously circulate, so...

  2. For about this amount of money, I got myself an ionic performer (YES! the one mentioned on Musicthing!). It's an EMS ripoff -- they took the EMS boards and stuck them (more or less) in a case with a crazy keyboard.

Here's the funny thing tho: I got it at the beginning of August (or was it late July), and I sent it to a guy for repairs -- it's STILL being repaired! (okay, it was in Queue for ages, and he started on it only a few weeks ago).

I tried to find all sorts of people to fix it up, and the ones who were qualified were booked up solid for at least 6 months to a year.

Moral of the story: Get into the Analogue Synth Repair business!

Second moral: If you buy one of these things, you need a LOT of patience. It's like restoring an old painting.

to have a piece of theknological history.
